Expand Networks Demonstrates Latest Network Accelerators at SATCON

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor
Expand Networks (News - Alert), a provider of wide area network, or “WAN,” optimization solutions, is demonstrating the latest innovations in acceleration techniques for optimizing services across satellite network environments at SATCON 2009.

At the conference, Expand Networks is showcasing its Virtual Accelerator and Mobile Accelerator Client, demonstrating how these virtual and mobile accelerators are advancing the scalability, affordability and performance benefits of WAN optimization for satellite networks.

Company officials said that Expand’s WAN optimization technology, along with integrated Space Communication Protocol Standard, or “SCPS,” technology, mitigates the effect of low bandwidth and high latency obstacles that can traditionally impede the speed and performance of applications over satellite links.

Combining SCPS with compression, byte-level caching and layer 7 QoS, Expand's protocol agnostic approach accelerates all critical productivity tools and business applications across satellite environments.

Operating enterprise-class applications over low bandwidth-high latency satellite links demands a dynamic, robust WAN Optimization capability to satisfy all network performance requirements, Howard Teicher, vice president for Public Sector & Satellite Markets at Expand Networks, said.

“Expand's flexible deployment options, including virtual appliances running on commodity hardware, and client software for individual workstations, provide an efficient optimization capability for each and every environment,” Teicher said.

Officials claim that Expand Networks has deployed more than 10,000 Expand Networks Accelerators across the United States government and all branches of the United States Military.

Clear Channel (News - Alert) Satellite, which provides satellite communications services for both government and large enterprises, and Thaicom, a provider of satellite broadband services in Asia-Pacific, have both recently enhanced managed service offerings based on Expand's WAN optimization technology.

In August, Expand Networks showcased both Virtual Accelerator and Mobile Accelerator Client at AFITC 2009.

Additionally, Expand Networks announced it has been positioned as a leader in the latest industry research “The WAN Optimization Vendor landscape: Making sense of the WANscape,” by Canadian analyst house, Info-Tech Research Group.
