In Broadcast Modulator Market, Reliability is Key
By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor
There’s a saying at Newtec (News - Alert) that “if all our equipment would fail at the same time 1.5 billion people would notice it.”

Therefore, the reliability of equipment is crucial, a spokeswoman for the Belgium-based company told TMCnet. To improve the odds, Newtec manages the complete production process, from the first design proposal to the complete manufacturing of the product. Because of this, equipment is much more reliable than in the past.
Newtec, which got its start in 1985 by two engineers with a vision, today is a force in the satellite communications field, with more than 280 employees in five continents.
As satellite technology is becoming more sophisticated, Newtec is making a name for itself for its broadcast modulators -- satellite modulators designed for broadcast contribution, DSNG and distribution applications over satellite in full compliance with the DVB-Standards.
Newtec executives tell TMCnet that its broadcast modulator’s advantages include lower operational costs thanks to its high-bandwidth efficiency, high versatility and flexibility.
“The Newtec Broadcast modulator is highly reliable because of its hardware design and the fact that it is fully or 100 percent compliant with the DVB-S2 standard resulting in a guaranteed interoperability with DVB receivers,” Bernard Paquet, Newtec’s product marketing director, told TMCnet.
The BM’s complete DVB-S2 implementation differentiates it from older models. All new modulators have been designed to optimize the use of the available satellite capacity by supporting multistream, VCM, ACM and tools to counter linear and non-linear distortion, according to Newtec.
“The new models also support simultaneously the most used interfaces in the Broadcast world: ASI + IP interfaces,” said a Newtec spokeswoman. “This is a unique key feature of the Newtec broadcast modulator and means the Newtec broadcast modulator is ready for the migration towards IP in the Broadcast world.”
