Engineering Firm Selects Proxim's New High-Performance Wireless Backhaul Gear to Connect Buildings and Increase Network Capacity

(Market Wire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SILICON VALLEY, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/09/09 -- Proxim Wireless Corporation (OTCQX: PRXM) (PINKSHEETS: PRXM), a leading provider of end-to-end broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play, today announced that Sunny Corner Enterprises, an engineering and fabrication company in Canada, has deployed Proxim's new Tsunami® QB-8150 point-to-point wireless backhaul products to connect its buildings and increase network capacity by nine times over its previous link.

"Our head office is located on the north side of the Miramichi River, and our fabrication plant is located on the south side. We wanted a cost-effective way to connect the two locations, without having to deploy a leased line," said Brett Gallant, Computer Consultant for Sunny Corner Enterprises. "We turned to Plexus Connectivity Solutions, who deployed Proxim's Tsunami QB-8150 for wireless backhaul to connect our buildings.

Not only is the cost savings great, but the performance of the network is amazing." By utilizing Proxim's QB-8150 products for wireless backhaul, Plexus was able to quickly and easily connect Sunny Corner Enterprises' two buildings across the dividing river. In addition to the significant cost savings of eliminating the need for an additional leased line, the company was able to provide its satellite fabrication plant with a high-performance link exceeding 52 Mbps despite going over water and through dense trees.

"Not only were the two buildings across the river from each other, but there are a considerable number of tall trees blocking any line-of-sight connection between the buildings," said Terry Bryden, Wireless Specialist at Plexus. "But with the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) capabilities of Proxim's new QB-8150 products, we were able to quickly set up the 3.5 km link achieving greater than 52 Mbps -- despite the interference caused by the water and the trees. It's incredible." Proxim's Tsunami QB-8150 products, which were introduced in July, combine MIMO and OFDM technologies with Proxim's Wireless Outdoor Routing Protocol (WORP) to provide high-performance wireless backhaul and connectivity. The radios can provide up to 300 Mbps data rate performance over distances of more than 70 kilometers, with extremely low latency of 1-2 milliseconds. In addition to advanced features like QoS, VLANs, bridging and routing, the QB-8150 also operates in a wide range of frequencies including licensed, unlicensed, and public safety frequency bands.

Innovative Features Mean Major Savings for Cellular Operators Using Satellite Backhaul
With the rising cost of satellite bandwidth and the need for more of it to support an ever increasing number of voice, data and now video services, operators must seek ways to reduce both their hardware investment costs and operating expenses, especially when fierce competition forces them to provide these new services without raising their rates.
