Media Advisory - Canadian Association of Police Boards to meet with Members of Parliament and the Senate on March 10 and 11

OTTAWA, Mar 9, 2010 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- The Directors of the Canadian Association of Police boards (CAPB) , will be on Parliament Hill on Wednesday March 10 and Thursday March 11 to meet with Senators, Members of Parliament and the Ministers of Public Safety and Justice on important issues related to policing in Canadian cities and municipalities that merit legislative change or government action. Current issues are: << - Strengthening of the Criminal Code provisions to criminalize cyber- bullying behaviours and increase the accountability of technological service providers for ongoing abuses of their systems.

- Significant changes are needed in the areas of lawful access, disclosure, proceeds of crime as well as organized crime laws, to stop the proliferation of gang violence on Canadian streets.

- Support for a new national strategy on firearms.

- Cuts to Aboriginal Policing Directorate creating problems in setting up police boards and a lack of training programs to provide adequate governance and oversight.

WHAT: CAPB Board of Directors will hold a press conference on Parliament Hill after their meetings with Members of Parliament and Senators.

WHEN: March 11 at 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) WHERE: Parliament Hill, 130-S, Centre Block (Charles Lynch Press Conference Room) >> Members of the CAPB Executive and Board will be available for media interviews.
