Apr 13, 2009 (Highlands Today - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Golf Hammock holding ladies golf clinics SEBRING Golf Hammock Country Club will hold ladies golf clinics with PGA/LPGA professional Nell Hays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Cost is $12, which includes discount card for weekend play. All levels are encouraged.

YMCA offering badminton SEBRING The Highlands County YMCA is offering badminton from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays for players ages 14 and up.

Coaching and equipment will be provided.

Sun 'N Lake to hold junior golf clinics SEBRING Sun 'N Lake country club will hold weekly junior golf clinics from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

Cost is $15, which includes instruction in all areas of the game, including etiquette, rules and basic fundamentals.

Sun 'N Lake offering adult group lessons SEBRING Adult lessons with Marty and Andy will run from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. every Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Cost is $15 and lessons are limited to 10 people.

McNall holding adult clinics SEBRING Debby McNall is holding adult golf clinics at Sebring Golf Club.

Weekend youth pick-up baseball players wanted SEBRING Want to play ball? Need a break from video games? Players are being sought for pick-up baseball games at noon on Saturdays and Sundays at the YMCA softball fields.

There is no cost. Parents are invited to join in and play with their kids, and all skill levels and ages are invited. Games are for fun and beginners are welcome.

Highlands County Amateur golf tournament upcoming AVON PARK The Highlands County Amateur golf championship will be held May 9-10 at Highlands Ridge North.

Cost is $100. There will be four flights: Open 18-49, Seniors 50-59, Super Seniors 60-69 and Super Super Senior 70 and up.

Avon Park Mower-Plex races upcoming AVON PARK Lawnmower races will be held at 6 p.m. on April 18 and May 16 at the Avon Park Mower Plex, 2155 Herrick Road.

Cost is $5 for adults and free for children under 12. Supertickets are $10, which include put pass. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and spectator gates open at 5 p.m.

USA Volleyball holding camp at Webber BABSON PARK Webber International University will host a USA Volleyball Girls High Performance Development Camp June 22-25 at the Sabbagh Athletic Center on the WIU campus.

Cost is $500 for the four-day on-court training camp, which is limited to 36 participants and athletes born from 1992-95.

Pinecrest two-man summer golf league upcoming AVON PARK Pinecrest Golf Club will hold a two-man Thursday night summer golf league at 5:30 p.m. Thursday night beginning April 30.

Cost is $100 per player (which covers dinner on the league night) plus a weekly fee to cover green fees and prize fund, and the format is an individual medal play and a team net best-ball. There will also be a weekly skins game and closest-to-the-pin contests.

All teams will share in the prize fund at the end of the season, based on standings.

Watkis junior tennis spring session upcoming SEBRING USPTA Certified Pro Horace Watkins will hold a nine-week spring session from until May 15 for players ages 4 to 18 at Thakkar Tennis Center at Sebring Country Club.

Cost is $75 for ages 4-6, $90 for ages 6-12 and $120 for ages 12-18.

Avon Park Rotary golf tourney upcoming AVON PARK The annual Avon Park Noon Rotary club golf tourney will be held at 8:30 a.m. on April 25 at Pinecrest golf club.

Cost is $60 per person for the four-person scramble, which includes cart and greens fee, snacks, on-course beverages, awards and contest entries. Hole sponsorships are also available.

Sun 'N Lake Tuesday night league gearing up SEBRING Sun 'N Lake golf club will host its annual Tuesday night league beginning April 28 and running throughout the summer.

Cost is $25 to register, plus a $12 weekly fee for the two-person team point quota league, which includes green fees and prize money for weekly closest-to-the-pin contests. An optional skins game will also be held. Deadline to sign up is April 21.

RJ Gators/Pinecrest couples golf league registering AVON PARK RJ Gators and Pinecrest golf club will hold their couples summer golf league beginning May 5.

Cost is $50 to register, plus a $50-per-couple weekly fee for the couples team (net) best-ball league, which includes 18 holes of golf, weekly prizes, closest-to-the-pin contests and "free" drink and dinner at RJ Gators in Sebring.

Field is limited to the first 20 teams.

Special STARS co-ed softball league upcoming SEBRING A co-ed softball league for Special STARS is putting together teams for its upcoming season.

Cost is $250 per team and there will be six Special STARS athletes on each team. Practices will be held on Sundays, April 5, 12, 19, with a tournament on April 25.

Highlands Ridge summer golf league registering AVON PARK Highlands Ridge North will hold its annual summer golf league every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. from May 6 to Sept. 23.

Registration cost is $30 per player with weekly $10 green fees and $5 prize fund. Special contests and skins will be available, weekly door and cash prizes will be awarded and drink and food specials will be offered following every round.

Registration deadline is April 29.

Kiwanis Charities Golf Classic on tap AVON PARK The 25th annual Kiwanis Golf Classic will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 and Highlands Ridge North.

Cost is $60 for the four-person scramble, which includes on-course refreshments and an all-you-can-eat buffet following play. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in each flight, a closest-to-the-pin contest will be held, along with long drives and hole-in-one contests.

Proceeds benefit the Judge Kelly Law Education Program.

Blue Streak Golf Classic upcoming AVON PARK The 26th annual Blue Streak golf classic will be held at 8:30 a.m. on May 16 at Highlands Ridge North golf course.

Cot is $60 per player, which includes, golf, cart, range balls, one mulligan, lunch, beverages, goodie bag and prizes.

The four-person scramble will be flighted by handicap. Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and last, along with closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one prizes. Door prizes include a 50-inch plasma HDTV, hole-in-one prize is a 2009 Ford car and KP prize is an iGolf NEO.

Parks and Rec softball registration ongoing SEBRING The Highlands County Park and Recreation Department will begin their spring softball league on Tuesday, May 6 at the Multi Sports Complex.

Registration runs through April and includes recreation, commercial and church teams. League is open to adults 16 and older and players turning 16 during 2009 must have parents permission. Deadline for registration and fees is May 1.
