Online Newspaper Austin Post Announces Real Time Reporting
AUSTIN, TX, Nov 24, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
Austin Post (www.austinpost.org) revealed its second iPhone app and
its latest feature: Real Time Reporting. Anyone with the app can send
short 105-character updates to the website that will be posted live.
The app and widget on the site have a huge potential: to break local
news, to alert users of potential issues, and to be an
up-to-the-second resource for all things going on in Austin.
Editor in Chief Lyssa Myska Allen says, "We think this a potentially
huge way to take what has become a news outlet -- Twitter -- and
streamline it. Anyone who submits a Real Time Report has the
intention of sharing news, which makes our widget really valuable for
someone looking for quick-hit news updates. You can see immediate
traffic updates, sports scores, crime reports, events, and more."
The iPhone app, Austin Post 2.0, is available in the iTunes app
store. The on-site real-time widget, Austin in Real Time, is
available to anyone with internet access, from a desktop computer to
any mobile device.
To promote the launch of Real Time Reporting, Austin Post is running
a reporting contest. From November 17 through December 2, there will
be a category of report specified. Users who submit a report in that
category are automatically entered to win a corresponding gift
certificate. The details and dates are below:
-- November 24-27: use #food to show off your Thanksgiving spread or a
restaurant dish -- win $50 gift card to the restaurant of your choice
-- November 28-Dec 2: use #fitness to talk about your workout or post a
picture of you working out -- $50 lululemon gift card
Austin Post aims to be a newspaper "of the people, by the people,
for the people," fostering a living conversation about issues of
particular relevance to the people of Austin.
