New Vehicle Tracking System

Feb 09, 2010 (Cameroon Tribune/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- The system code-named, "Frotcom Vehicle Tracking System (Frotcom)" remotely controls the activity of the vehicle through maps, satellite, pictures etc.

Cameroon now has a vehicle tracking system which can control the speed, location and other activities of a vehicle to reduce road accidents usually caused by high speed as well as car theft inherent in the country. The system, which began in Portugal and which is reportedly already available in 25 countries in the world, 12 in Africa, is designed to control and monitor the fleet of vehicles in a simple and effective way. It controls the movement of the vehicle: where they are at any moment, when they began their journey, for how long they stopped and where as well as the speed at which the car is running and how much fuel is being consumed per unit distance etc.

The new system managed by a Portugal-based firm, Frotcom International, is already in Cameroon thanks to Cameroon's Patrice Taah Ngalla, who is the professional Certified Partner for Cameroon taking the lead with the development of this solution in the country. According to Mr Ngalla, "Frotcom is able to send reports and speed alarms to either your email or as sms to your cell phone as well as can remotely stop the engine of a car in case of hijack from a remote location by a simple sms command." He said, "Frotcom is installed in each vehicle of the fleet and is possible to track all your vehicles 24 hours a day with positions and sensor data being received at least every 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes etc....depending on what interval you want". He stressed that the system has an inbuilt GPS technology and remotely controls the activity of the vehicle through maps, satellite, pictures.

According to Mr Taah Ngalla, the device has already been tested in Cameroon by a number of businesses; Conservation Organisations, Security Companies, Logging Companies and Contractors, some of whom, he said, have shown a lot of interests by placing their orders for the device. "Frotcom vehicle tracking system is now available with Frotcom authorised distributor in Cameroon represented by NAREMARGIS CIG"; he said, adding that it mainly targets companies that wish to control their truck or car fleets: road transportation companies; overnight courier services; logistic and distribution companies. The advantages, among others, include cost reduction and increase in productivity, increased quality of service to customers as well as less thefts and accidents. He said it is also a good tool for good governance in vehicle fleet management. "This can be a tool to improve the management of public vehicles and those of other private businesses most often abusively used in the country", he confirmed.
