Six Fans Selected for 2010 Bloomberg Baseball Challenge
NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--
Six fans will compete against six baseball experts in the 2010 Bloomberg (News - Alert) Baseball Challenge, a fantasy baseball league that includes some of the most successful champions of fantasy sports. The six winners, all veteran players and long-time fans that have been competing in various leagues some as long as 17 years, will take on six experts in a season-long competition using the BLOOMBERG SPORTSTM fantasy tools. The competition will begin with an online draft Monday, March 15, at 8:30 p.m. EDT. Fans can follow the draft live at www.bloombergexperts.rtsports.com.
"We are very pleased about the tremendous interest in Bloomberg's fantasy tools, driving requests from so many fans around the world," said Bill Squadron, head of the Bloomberg Sports product. "The responses in such a short period of time show the depth of enthusiasm for fantasy sports and a clear interest in the Bloomberg Sports analytic products. This will be a great deal of fun as players from a variety of backgrounds and experiences compete against a set of experts to see who can use the tools to be the best possible player."
The winners were selected from over 300 entrants who responded over a five day period and ranged from a variety of countries including: United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, England, Germany, Denmark and the Caribbean. The six fans playing in the league are:
Satoshii Kii - a college student in Tokyo, Japan and a fantasy baseball veteran;
Paul Farrell - a London cabdriver who has played fantasy baseball for a few years. He is a veteran fantasy player in sports ranging from cricket to soccer and motor racing;
Martha Mitchell - a 54 year old mother, who has followed baseball since the 70's and lives in Texas;
David Roher - a sophomore at Harvard and the co-president of the Harvard Sports Analysis Collective, who learned about the contest at last week's MIT (News - Alert) Sloan Analytics Conference in Boston;
Rob Reed - a personal injury lawyer in the San Fernando Valley, California, who has been playing and winning fantasy sports competitions for over 17 years;
Jonathan Levey and his grandfather Don Levey - from Cleveland, Ohio and Delray, Florida, have been enjoying baseball and playing fantasy together for years, sometimes even against each other. This will be the first time they have joined forces;
The six fans will be competing against a panel of experts that include: Harold Reynolds, MLB Network Analyst; Ron Shandler, Founder of BaseballHQ.com; Lawr Michaels, Senior Content Manager for Mastersball.com; Tim Heaney, Managing Editor of KFFL.com; Steve Gardner, USA Today fantasy baseball columnist and Derek VanRiper, Baseball Editor of Rotowire.com.
