VeneMovies & Semillitas, Two New 24-Hour Spanish Language Channels, Added to RCN's Hispanic Cable TV Program Packages

HERNDON, VA, Mar 15, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI) announced today that it has added two new 24-hour Spanish language channels to its Hispanic Cable TV Program Packages. VeneMovies, a successful commercial-free film channel that broadcasts the best contemporary films, is offered as part of RCN's MiVision Plus Spanish- language package. Semillitas, a toddlers and preschoolers network that programs animation in Spanish, is today available only in Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. in the cable provider's El Paqueton, MiVision Lite and MiVision Plus packages. This Agreement guarantees that for the next three months Semillitas will not available on any other satellite or cable provider in RCN's communities.

RCN Corporation is a leading provider of all-digital and high definition video, high-speed internet, and premium voice services to residential and small-medium business customers in Philadelphia, Lehigh Valley, PA, New York City, Boston, Chicago and Washington, D.C., as well as high-capacity transport services to carrier and large enterprise customers.

VeneMovies (www.venemovies.com), produced by SOMOSTV (a company dedicated to the development of Pay TV channels for the Hispanic Market), offers the best selection of films from Latin America (Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and others) and Spain, all of them of recent production, with attractive casting and urban stories that fit the taste of today's film lovers.

Produced in the United States with the best standards in the industry and focusing on the unique characteristics of the Hispanic/Latino market, VeneMovies' films combine the most popular genres (action, drama, comedies, romance, etc.) with "behind the scenes" footage and coverage of film events all across the United States, Latin America and Europe in an impacting on-air presence.

The channel will be available on channel 599 in Boston, Chicago, Washington D.C., New York and Philadelphia and on channel 793 in Lehigh Valley, PA.

Since its launch in 2006, VeneMovies has been growing steadily based on its high quality signal, modern programming and on air presence, rapidly becoming one of the favorite options for Latinos who enjoy high quality entertainment and good movies originally produced in their mother tongue. VeneMovies includes an attractive promotional strategy based on the Latino and U.S. festivities and national holidays, fostering both the unique Latino culture and the integration to mainstream America.

Semillitas (www.semillitas.tv ), also produced by SOMOSTV, offers state-of-the-art animation from Latin America, Spain, the United States and other international countries, dubbed in neutral Spanish in a safe, soothing, culturally relevant graphic package that emphasizes Latino cultural elements. Its award and internationally known content includes a significant portion of latest "3D/textured" animation, packaged with interstitial and other materials that promote pro-social behavior and good hygiene habits at home.

Semillitas includes as well an attractive on-line presence where parents can find useful information and children can start their interaction with the computer via simple, visually oriented games.

The channel is supported by extensive consumer research that shows that Hispanic parents, whether bilingual or not, speak Spanish to their children at these ages, recognizing that later they will be assimilated into American culture. Therefore, planting the seeds of "cultural identity" in their kids is an important part of raising the family (as it is for many American immigrants).

"Our company is a leader in providing our subscribers with international viewing choices," said RCN's Strategic External Affairs & Programming Senior Vice President Richard Ramlall. "We are pleased to add both Semillitas to all 3 of our Spanish-language packages and VeneMovies to our MiVision Plus Spanish-language package, so we can offer this high-quality programming and add even more value to our Hispanic lineup." Luis Villanueva, president and CEO of SOMOSTV (www.somostv.net), expressed his satisfaction in launching both Semillitas and VeneMovies on RCN by stating, "We are very happy to launch these networks with a partner such as RCN, which has demonstrated its sensitivity in providing the Latino community in these important cities with top quality entertainment and channels they can feel proud of. We believe Semillitas is a great community relationship builder and proof of the attention RCN pays to its Hispanic audience, recognizing the importance that family values play in our culture." MiVision Plus, which includes both Semillitas and VeneMovies, has the most robust channel offering and the price is $22.95/mo. MiVision Lite is a package created for people who want great Spanish-language programming but at a lower price. MiVision Lite is only $12.00/mo and does not contain VeneMovies, ESPN Deportes and Gol TV. These two MiVision packages are additions to a subscriber's core video package.

El Paqueton is designed for those customers who are interested in getting a diversity of English and Spanish programming for one low price. It contains MiVision Lite as well as over 100 English channels including HD in one package for only $35/mo.
