'DCS powers Akta digital TV service with Harmonic'

May 04, 2010 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Romanian cable and DTH satellite service provider Digital Cable Systems (DCS) awarded a contract to Harmonic to deploy its digital video delivery products to power the new Akta TV digital service. Harmonic's fully integrated IP-based products use a national IP transport backbone to deliver digital TV services to remote headends across the country.

DCS has deployed Harmonic's ProStream 1000 stream processing platform for re-encoding, multiplexing and scrambling, bNSG 9000 edgeQAMs for edge processing, and NMX Digital Service Manager to manage the complete video network infrastructure. DCS, an existing Harmonic customer, is located in Bucharest and launched the new 80-channel Akta TV digital service in March. Cellphone, an authorised Harmonic reseller in Romania, was a key member of this project and provided additional technology integration and customer support services.
