BRIEF: Georgian president inspects Centre for Emergency Situations Management

Jun 20, 2012 (Trend News Agency - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- TBILISI, Georgia -- Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili together with the Interior Minister and Tbilisi mayor inspected the new Centre for Emergency Situations Management-112 last night.

He inquired about the centre's facilities and said that there were too few phone numbers to call for emergency services before the 'Rose Revolution' in Georgia, which has always been a problem.

"Now in Georgia just by calling one number one can receive necessary medical services," he said.

President Saakashvili inquired about the intensity of calls and the time within which one can get the required aid.

Saakashvili stressed that the new centre is an opportunity to ensure public safety.

The Centre-112 has been operating for a month and combines the fire and rescue service and ambulance. One can call the Emergency Situations Management-112 Centre from any phone, including a mobile, even if it does not have cash balance.

The Centre employs 300 people. They have a 12-hour working day. Salary of employees is 800-900 lari.
