BRIEF: RCN unveils new logo

Jun 28, 2012 (The Morning Call - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- RCN Corp. has changed its logo to coincide with recent changes at the cable company.

The company redesigned its residential and business logos affixed to everything from company service vehicles to highway billboards.

The new image, unveiled during a company-sponsored business networking meeting in Williams Township on Wednesday, features what company officials describe as a sleeker design of the RCN lettering and replacement of the signature star with a wings mark and shadow below it.

The new logo coincides with a series of changes for the Princeton, N.J.-based cable company, including new leadership, improved infrastructure and customer service shifted from overseas to the company's Wilkes-Barre and Bethlehem-based call centers, officials said.

RCN, Service Electric Cable TV & Communications of Bethlehem and Blue Ridge Communications of Palmerton are the three primary cable providers in the Lehigh Valley.

RCN also offers cable service in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Washington and Chicago.

Cable companies have been reinventing themselves in recent years as competition mounts from Internet streaming, satellite TV providers and Verizon's FiOS, which is available in Allentown.
