RELM Wireless Gets Order from U.S. Department of Homeland Security Tactical Communications Contract

Jun 29, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- RELM Wireless Corp. has announced that it received an order under the previously announced Tactical Communications (TacCom) contract issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Totaling approximately $128,000, the Company reported that the order is for P25 digital VHF portable radios and related equipment. This order was competitively bid among suppliers of two-way radio subscriber units on the TacCom contract.

RELM President and CEO David Storey said, "Although this order is below the dollar threshold at which we normally issue a press release, it is significant because it opens the gate as the first order issued to us under the TacCom contract. It was also encouraging to win this business in direct competition against other suppliers on the contract. We have high hopes for this contract as a vehicle through which we can drive sales growth. This order is the first step." APCO Project 25 (P25), which requires interoperability among compliant equipment regardless of the manufacturer, was established by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials and is approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The shift toward interoperability gained momentum as a result of significant communications failures during emergency events. RELM noted that it was one of the earliest manufacturers of P25-compliant products, and remains a supporter of the P25 standard.

RELM Wireless Corp. provides high-specification two-way communications equipment for use by public safety professionals and government agencies, as well as radios for use in a range of commercial and industrial applications.
