Accenture signs management consulting contract with Japan's Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries

Jul 05, 2012 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Accenture (NYSE:ACN), a management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, revealed on Wednesday that it signed a management consulting contract to enhance food supply capabilities in natural disasters and emergencies with the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Additionally, the company said that the Japanese Ministry's "Project for Measures to Improve Food Supply Capabilities in an Emergency" aims to make the building of an enhanced food supply chain network and encourage food suppliers from producers to retailers to develop business continuity plans and strengthen collaboration networks for disaster and emergency response amongst them, a priority.

Further, Accenture will analyse where the food supply chain became dysfunctional in an emergency, such as the Great East Japan Earthquake, and where it functioned well with the cooperation of business partners. Post analysis it will propose guidelines for collaborative agreements among suppliers to maintain business operations during disasters and emergencies.

Also, nationwide meetings and workshops will be held by Accenture for food suppliers and new guidelines to support the development of advanced business continuity plans will be provided.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
