Space Systems/Loral to develop next generation protected military satellite communications for USAF

Nov 01, 2012 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Space Systems/Loral(SS/L), a provider of commercial satellites, said on Wednesday that it has been selected by the US Air Force Space and Missile Systems Centre (SMC) to develop affordable design concepts for next generation Protected Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM).

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.

The objective of the SMC programme is to develop practical new architectures and technologies that will protect increasingly contested and threatened high security communications.

SS/L is expected to combine its expertise and existing technologies from commercial developments together with existing military technologies provided by a team of domain experts to assess options for both space and ground segment design.

Space Systems/Loral is a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications (Nasdaq:LORL).
