Nov 06, 2012 (Trend News Agency - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Internet has become an integral and important part of Azerbaijan's socio-political life, and Azerbaijan has recently become one of the leading regional countries in the sphere of developing the Internet, Head of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Ali Hasanov told journalists today.
"More than 60 percent of the population use Internet," Hasanov said. He was commenting on the ongoing VII Global Internet Governance Forum, jointly conducted by the UN and the Azerbaijani government in Baku.
"It is important that this forum is being held in Baku," he said. "Free Internet, the dynamic growth of the number of its users, clear public policy in this area, expressing interest and public concern, recently paid in Azerbaijan in this field were the reasons for choosing Baku as the venue of the forum."
Hasanov also noted that Azerbaijan continues necessary work to launch its own satellite.
"Perhaps, after the satellite is launched in the near future, the number of providers will increase and other Internet services will be expanded," he said, adding that this forum will support further development of Internet in Azerbaijan and will play a certain role in promoting Azerbaijan's success in this field as an indicator of expanding the Internet.
"The forum involving around 1,000 specialists and representatives of the organizations specialized in Internet management and development shows that Azerbaijan has fully reached significant progress in the development of this area," he said.
