PrismTech Joins Forces with Space Coast Communication Systems to Provide a Multi-Channel Platform for Development and Test of SCA Waveforms

Nov 07, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- PrismTech, a company focusing on standards-based, performance-critical middleware, and Space Coast Communication Systems, a company focusing on Software Defined Radio-based RF Test Equipment, announced a technology partnership to offer Spectra on the SCA Open Architecture Radio (SOAR).

According to a release, the SOAR product builds off the same multi-channel software radio infrastructure that Space Coast uses in the line of eXplorer Satellite Simulators. In its current offering SOAR is available in 2, 4 or 8 channel configurations.

It's funny how little things have changed developmentally in SDR architecture since the time we worked with 20 MHz processors on 8 Mbytes of RAM," observes John D. "The holy grail of portable software eludes us because developers are hastened to work in development environments that are as identical as possible to fielded hardware. This is the most difficult environment to work in - artificially constraining developers to having to work with customized Operating Environments (OE) spanning multiple disparate compute elements - FPGA, DSP, and GPP. Inevitably OE's and Application Software are in simultaneous development - just another de-stabilizing effect that undermines the true power of SDR." The Spectra product suite for radio system developers and integrators provides Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) development tools and software infrastructure including the Spectra CX - model-driven development tool, Spectra CF - a SCA Core Framework, and Spectra CDB - an integrated and optimized SDR middleware stack.
