China to Launch First Communications Satellite for Sri Lanka

BEIJING, Nov 22, 2012 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Local media reports said that Supreme SAT I, the first communications satellite of Sri Lanka, will be launched by the Xichang Satellite Launch Center today and be in orbit seven minutes after the launch. The satellite will serve local business.

The satellite will be launched by Long March carrier rocket of China. A local investment committee revealed that the launch is one step of the cooperative plan between Supreme Group from Sri Lanka and China Satellite Communications Co. Ltd. (China Satcom), according to which two more launches for Supreme Group will be kicked off in June 2013 and December 2015 respectively.
