ITT Exelis awarded satellite technology contract by US Air Force Research Laboratory

Jan 30, 2013 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- ITT Exelis (NYSE:XLS), a diversified, aerospace, defence and information solutions company, announced on Tuesday the receipt of a USD3.2m follow-on contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, to provide upgraded satellite remote sensor systems.

Under this contract, which was originally awarded in 2011, Exelis will provide additional sensors, simulators and the ground support equipment required for future payload integration activities. Exelis is partnering with Ball Aerospace Technologies Company under the sponsorship of AFRL.

Exelis said that it will provide its Coherent Beacon System, a space-based sensor system that investigates and forecasts natural disturbances in the Earth's atmosphere.
