Broadband Satellite Service Provider Hughes Network Bags over $11M for Secure Systems in 2010

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Hughes Network Systems, a provider of broadband satellite networks and services, announced that it was awarded over $11 million in new orders for secure systems during 2010 from various Government customers.

These multimillion orders from Government customers were primarily attributable to new business supporting national security programs for the intelligence community and Department of Defense, company officials said.

Hughes Network Systems (News - Alert) provides broadband satellite networks and services for large enterprises, governments, small businesses, and consumers across the globe. HughesNet encompasses all broadband solutions and managed services from Hughes, bridging the best of satellite and terrestrial technologies.

The broadband satellite products from Hughes are based on global standards approved by the TIA (News - Alert), ETSI and ITU standards organizations, including IPoS/DVB-S2, RSM-A and GMR-1. To date, Hughes has shipped more than 2.2 million systems to customers in over 100 countries.

“We look forward to continuing to deliver advanced communications and networking solutions that meet the requirements of these important customers,” said Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of Hughes Defense and Intelligence Systems Division, in a statement.

In November, TMCnet reported that the U.S. General Services Administration selected Hughes Network Systems to provide commercial satellite communications under new Schedule Item Numbers created by the GSA (News - Alert) and Defense Intelligence Systems Agency's Future COMSATCOM Services Acquisition program.

Recently, Hughes also announced that it has received quality response from trials of its HX ExpertNMS network management system for a unit of the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command (RDECOM), as well as a Coalition country military unit.

HX ExpertNMS is a full-featured capability of the commercially successful Hughes HX System. It enables efficient management and satellite optimization-enhanced network performance through an intuitive, graphical interface to an advanced set of monitoring and diagnostic tools. HX System supports any mix of fixed, at-the-halt, or on-the-move satellite communications in star or mesh network configuration.
