GST Revamping Weather Data Processing Methods in Several Countries

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST (News - Alert)) recently announced three large initiatives, all in relation to the company’s weather forecasting technology. Currently, the Cambodia Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is receiving help from Global Science & Technology to Modernize Cambodia Civil Aerometeorology. This assistance is for the process of upgrading and modernizing their way of processing weather data information as a part of the support system for aviation operations in Cambodia.

In a release, Paul Heppner, GST Program Manager, said, "We're providing the WAFS-METLAB2 and BriefNet systems to Cambodia CAA at key facilities in country that will process aviation weather data, ultimately making the final information available as flight briefing products and other meteorological charts for aviation professionals."

In the past year, GST created an upgraded version DirectMet satellite reception system for Geostationary Orbital Environmental Satellite (GOES) imagery. This new version functions on the Windows 7 OS. This kind of a system was recently installed in Curacao in 2011. Two more systems of the same kind are going to be installed in Aruba and Barbados this year.

Heppner went on to say that "DirectMet is a vital system for the tracking of hurricanes in the tropics. DirectMet includes hurricane analysis tools as part of the software package. Global Science & Technology Assisting NOAA, Customers Migrate to New Data Services. The International Satellite Communication System (ISCS) satellite broadcast is expected to terminate during 2012, at which time GST customers with METLAB workstations will need to switch to fileserver data access.”

GST is right now working in close quarters with NOAA to test out its communication interfaces.

Innovative Features Mean Major Savings for Cellular Operators Using Satellite Backhaul
With the rising cost of satellite bandwidth and the need for more of it to support an ever increasing number of voice, data and now video services, operators must seek ways to reduce both their hardware investment costs and operating expenses, especially when fierce competition forces them to provide these new services without raising their rates.
