Skycasters, Ka You Communications Partner to Help Radio Operators Earn EAS CAP Compliance

Skycasters, a leading provider of broadband satellite Internet solutions, recently announced its partnership with Ka You Communications to offer a solution to radio operators across the US. The easy-to-install and cost-effective solution called IP Reday will help radio operators to get EAS CAP compliant before the June 30th deadline. Under the partnership, Ka You Communications will help Skycasters to earn EAS CAP compliance with a turnkey satellite communications solution named IPReady.

A trusted provider of FCC (News - Alert) License support services, Ka You Communications claims to take the technical burden of the complexities relating to FCC compliance application by preparing, submitting, and monitoring the clients’ license application for both C-band and Ku-band uplinks.

In a press release, Skycasters explained that IPReady has been designed to provide the secure Internet link to the radio operators for their transmitter location. Thanks to its satellite based connection, it is independent of terrestrial lines and free from the vulnerabilities of landlines.

With the FCC making the new Emergency Alert System/Common Alerting Protocol (EAS CAP) mandatory for all radio stations, many radio operators plan to subscribe to Skycasters’ IPReady solution, which according to its maker, is especially suitable for the radio stations located in remote areas.

EAS CAP requires that transmitter sites of radio stations throughout the United States are connected to the IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert and Warning System) database via an Internet connection. To stay connected to IPAWS, all of the transmitter sites are to be reliably connected to the Internet in the first place. But getting reliable Internet connection can be a real problem for transmitter sites located in remote areas.

Despite these challenges, every tower will be required by the FCC to have an IP connection in order to relay EAS messages. The FCC has set the deadline on June 30, 2012 for the adoption of EAS CAP by all radio stations. IPReady comes with a reliable Internet link with a static IP address, and this is what makes it  ideal for the transmitter sites located in areas such as on top of mountains or in valleys.

Leveraging the iDirect (News - Alert) satellite platform, IPReady link all transmitters to the network. With entire network managed by a single platform, radio operators can enjoy better command over all the transmitters, right from their home base. Skycasters said that its business grade satellite Internet network allows for remote transmitter control with systems from Burke, Moseley, Larcan, and other manufacturers.

Earlier this month, Skycasters announced that it has reached a major milestone in their teleport expansion project, and have erected a new 8.1m uplink antenna. The new antenna has significantly higher gain than their existing 6.3m antennas, and will add additional reliability and redundancy to their expanding satellite Internet teleport infrastructure, the company revealed in an earlier release.
