TVU Networks, a provider of portable live electronic news gathering ENG broadcast solutions, announced that it signed an agreement with Scripps Media. TVU will be deploying its TVUPack across Scripps Media broadcast stations serving 19 television markets in the United States.
TVUPack has been adopted by several broadcast organizations as it delivers satellite and microwave TV truck functionality in a lightweight backpack which serves the needs of broadcasters. TVU’s proprietary Inverse StatMux technology powers TVUPack.
Scripps Media is a broadcast company with stations in 11 states. It picked the TVUPack after conducting two comprehensive tests comprising of several cellular uplink products in a one year period. TVUPack was selected owing to its good picture quality, high resiliency and ease of use in the field.
In a release Michael Doback, vice president, engineering, Scripps Media commented, “Scripps is all about quality journalism on every screen at any time. TVUPack has proven to be a valuable tool for our news departments to deliver live and non-real-time video content across our television, Web and mobile platforms.”
Further plans are afoot to deploy the same solution across the Scripps network of affiliates to optimize the sharing of live content across the station group, said officials.
“With TVUPack, our stations will have the ability to deliver more content from more diverse locations than ever before,” Doback added.
According to officials this technology dynamically segments a live video signal and transmits the segments via multiple independent 3G/4G/Wi-Fi/WiMax connections. Also, TVUPack delivers a low-latency, HD-quality signal which optimizes live broadcast from anywhere.
Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks said, “Hundreds of customers around the world have turned to TVUPack to deliver professional quality resilient HD picture of live news and events to their viewers. Scripps has long been viewed in the industry as a leader in adopting innovative technologies, and we’re happy to welcome the Scripps stations to the TVUPack family.”
In April 2012, TVU Networks launched a new Multipath solution designed to help broadcasters retrofit existing SD microwave and satellite ENG trucks to broadcast in HD using TVUPack, mobile uplink solution. This solution enables broadcasters to preserve their investment in their existing ENG vehicles while making the all-important transition to full HD video transmission.
