Satellite Company Tapped for Broadband Expansion

The largest cable provider for Panama, Cable & Wireless (News - Alert) Panama, is seeking expansion for its residents as telephony and Internet communications become a top priority.
With its customers in mind, C&W tapped Gilate Satellite for a new network to bring up-to-date Internet connectivity combined with better telephony services. Using Sky-Edge II, a multitude of services, including voice, broadband data and video services for enterprises, rural networks and government network applications are now easily accessible in an environment that would otherwise be challenging.
"Our decision to select Gilat once again to support us in our endeavor to provide a robust satellite network in Panama is a clear vote of our confidence in their tremendous track record with C&W over the years. Gilat's ability to provide a bandwidth efficient, end to end solution, coupled with their support to operate the central hub activities, has allowed us to ensure that broadband connectivity, even at the most remote locations, is of the highest quality and reliability for our customers," said Jorge Nicolau, CEO of Cable & Wireless Panama.
The newest addition to Gilat's SkyEdge II portfolio is NetEdge, a dedicated solution for multi-star networks, specifically designed to meet the needs of corporate networks and cellular-backhaul applications.
SkyEdge II supports higher modulation such as 16APSK/32APSK for outbound channels and QPSK/8PSK for inbound channels, reducing space segment costs and is scalable from the smallest of networks to the largest.
“We are proud of our long-lasting partnership with C&W. This project is another testament to Gilat's ability to address the special requirements of operators as they are tasked with providing reliable communication services in challenging environments,” said Russell Ribeiro, Gilat's regional VP of Latin America.
Gilat was recently the recipient of the Bronze A' Design Award for its SkyEdge II-c 'Aries' VSAT which features faster speeds with easy to attributes.
