Intelsat (News - Alert) Epic is a high performance, next generation satellite platform that provides worldwide high-throughput technology without giving up on user control of service elements and hardware. The Intelsat Epic platform is an approach to satellite and network architecture making use of C-, Ku- and Ka-bands, wide beams, spot beams, and frequency reuse technology to offer various customer-centric benefits.
Recently, the company announced that MTN (News - Alert) has committed to Intelsat EpicNG. To offer more than two gigabits of capacity for MTN's cruise and yacht customers in the Caribbean, MTN will make use of the first Intelsat EpicNG satellite, Intelsat 29e.
MTN will make use of capacity on Intelsat's Ku-band mobile global broadband infrastructure in the initial stages. Facilitating MTN to provide an unprecedented level of throughput in important Caribbean regions, especially for the cruise and yacht sectors, MTN will then partially transition to its custom-designed service on the Intelsat EpicNG platform once Intelsat 29e is launched in 2015, the company stated in a press release.
“MTN has been an important partner to Intelsat for more than two decades, and is one of the true pioneers of the maritime VSAT sector," said Steve Spengler, Intelsat EVP of sales, marketing and strategy. "The Intelsat EpicNG platform will be the perfect complement to MTN's intense focus on innovation and commitment to its customers, and will enable MTN to differentiate its service features and achieve much higher throughput per vessel, changing the cruise ship experience by offering affordable, reliable connectivity.”
Recently, Panasonic (News - Alert) Avionics Corporation selected Intelsat for up to 1 Gbps of capacity on the Intelsat EpicNG satellite platform. Panasonic will be making use of this capacity in the delivery of aeronautical consumer broadband and live TV services. To make sure the highest possible bandwidth for existing and future airline customers, Panasonic has selected the Intelsat EpicNG satellite platform.
