ViaSat (News - Alert) Inc., a company that offers fixed and mobile satellite network services, was reportedly selected by the Commonwealth of Australia Department of Defense (ADF) to supply the UHF Satellite Communication (Satcom) Mission System for its recently-launched UHF capacity on Intelsat (News - Alert) IS-22.
According to the terms of the $35-million agreement, ViaSat will provide a complete UHF Network Control System that includes system architecture, design, development, integration and test, site preparation, equipment procurement and installation, and ongoing support.
The system will provide voice and data military satcom from the west coast of Africa to the east coast of Australia.
"The Network Control System will use satellites in the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions to support the resource sharing partnership with the United States," said Stephen Smith, Australia Minister for Defence. "The NCS will become a critical component for UHF communications for ADF personnel operating in the Middle East."
ViaSat, Inc. produces advanced digital satellite telecommunications and wireless signal processing equipment for government and commercial markets. Other Government Systems products include information security devices, tactical communication radios and communication simulators.
ViaSat's full line of satellite communication products includes VSAT systems for network access and infrastructure, and Ka-band satellite systems, from user terminals to large gateways for both geosynchronous and low earth orbit satellites. ViaSat also offers communication system design and a number of complementary products and technologies.
"I think our ability to deliver IW capability is the significant reason we were chosen for this award," said Jerry Goodwin, VP of Business Development at ViaSat. "That technology is something we feel is important to maintaining a leadership position in global UHF satcom systems and services."
In related news, ViaSat, Inc. will host a conference call on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. EDT to discuss first quarter results for fiscal year 2013. The dial-in number is (877) 638-9577 and (914) 495-8531 internationally.
