By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor
SkyVision (News - Alert) Global Networks Ltd., a global provider of IP connectivity over satellite and fiber optic networks throughout Africa, consolidated its position in Africa with the acquisition of Afinis from Monaco Telecom.
As a result of the acquisition, Afinis' local offices and licensing in Burkina Faso, Guinea and Senegal will now be owned by SkyVision, which will leverage Afinis' extensive knowledge, particularly in Oil and Gas, mining and financial services.
“We look forward to welcoming the Afinis team into SkyVision and to continue offering customers the superior service they are accustomed to,” said Doron Ben-Sira, CEO, SkyVision Global Networks.
Company officials believe the acquisition of Afinis, which comes in the wake of SkyVision's recently established subsidiary, SkyVision South Africa, takes the company a step closer to its goal of “becoming one of the largest satellite operators in emerging markets offering true Pan-African coverage and presence.”
Afinis' strong presence in Africa's French-speaking countries, deep understanding of the corporate market, and value added services will complement and reinforce SkyVision's strategy of developing a continent wide local presence and further cement its position in Nigeria, East, Central and Southern Africa.
SkyVision has reportedly built a good reputation for satellite communications in Africa, and Afinis' potential and existing customer base will benefit from the combined business' increased scale and strong customer service.
SkyVision is a premier global IP telecommunication service provider to emerging markets, offering solutions that combine satellite service platforms with high-capacity fiber optic connections.
Its strong global reach, combined with its increased and active local presence, will benefit customers immensely.
Telesat (News - Alert) announced that SkyVision Global Networks Ltd., a global provider of IP connectivity over satellite, has signed a multiyear contract for Ku-band capacity into Africa on Telesat s Telstar 11N satellite.
