Comtech Helps Service Provider in Asia-Pacific to Offer Affordable Services to Rural Areas

Many service providers in Asia are looking for alternative technology solutions, as satellite bandwidth prices have increased. With increased prices, service providers are forced to switch to technologies that provide increased throughput and reduced OPEX (News - Alert) while enabling them to be competitive and continue to offer affordable services.

Sailing in the same boat as other service providers, a telecommunications service provider in Asia-Pacific is upgrading fielded DMD50 Universal Satellite Modems with Comtech EF Data Corp.’s DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier.

According to a press release, Comtech EF Data Corp. was awarded a $1.5 million worth order for DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression from the Asia-Pacific telecommunications service provider, wherein it will use the technology to facilitate a network expansion and to deliver new services to rural villages.

Based on Raytheon (News - Alert) Applied Signal Technology's patented “Adaptive Cancellation” technology, the DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier allows transmit and receive carriers of a duplex link to share the same transponder space.

In addition, the DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier technology minimizes OPEX/CAPEX as well as maximizes throughput/availability without additional transponder resources when combined with advanced forward error correction and modulation techniques.

The name of the service provider leveraging the DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier technology was undisclosed.

Fred Kornberg (News - Alert), president and CEO of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. said in a statement, “This service provider opted to upgrade their Radyne (News - Alert)-branded modems based on the proven advantages that our DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier technology provides.”

Kornberg added, “Commercial and government customers globally rely on this revolutionary technology to achieve significant OPEX savings with no degradation in quality.”
