Spirent Communications Launches New Hybrid Location Technology Solution

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Communications and network testing company Spirent Communications (News - Alert) has recently introduced its new Hybrid Location Technology Solution, called the Spirent HLTS.

The first test solution of its kind, Spirent HLTS combines Wi-Fi, Assisted Global Navigation Satellite System, Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems sensor and cellular positioning technologies.

Officials said the solution also offers repeatable and reliable lab-based characterization of mobile devices supporting the hybrid location technologies being developed to provide accurate user location everywhere.

The HLTS integrates multiple positioning technologies and also assists the device developer in optimizing these technologies for precise location determination. It is configured and controlled via a single user interface which, without needing an additional coding or scripting, allows a user to easily create realistic hybrid test scenarios and significantly reduce development time.

Not only does HLTS bring together all elements of hybrid positioning technology synchronously and simultaneously, it also provides two testing modes: measure and playback, and simulation.

Measure and playback mode allows real-world Wi-Fi, GPS, sensor and cellular data signals to be measured and recorded in the field, and then processed and played back on the HLTS in the lab.

“Spirent is excited to provide the first test solution that integrates four very different and distinct positioning technologies and which will accelerate the development of next-generation location technologies in wireless devices,” said Spirent vice president Hesham ElHamahmy, in a press release. “This is testament to Spirent’s long-standing leadership and commitment to remain at the forefront of testing these technologies.”

Additionally, the first test solution will also provide detailed analysis of test results, with comprehensive debugging tools and logs.

In related TMC news, Crossbeam (News - Alert) Systems, in partnership with network testing solutions provider Spirent Communications, is hosting a series of workshops in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia, Brazil. The workshops are designed to guide network security professionals on how to effectively deploy security solutions within their networks while maintaining the high levels of performance required for their businesses.
