Gilat's Spacenet Outfits 10k Dollar General Stores with VSAT Technology

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

Satellite technology has a wide variety of different uses when it comes to the business world. Communication is a big part of any business and being able to send and receive data at a speed that seems faster than light is big for companies that have more than one location, in more than one country or state.

Israeli company Gilat’s Spacenet is one such satellite communications array that has managed to keep businesses the world over humming. Gilat announced recently that Spacenet has just equipped its 10,000th Dollar General store with their VSAT technology.

Being able to outfit 10,000 Dollar Generals is quite the accomplishment, especially when the company has the largest number of retail stores in the United States.

Spacenet has had a partnership with Dollar General for more than a decade (since 2001) and has equipped each and every retail location in the U.S. with their top-of-the-line VSAT tech.

Spacenet pointed out that the connectivity of this satellite technology comes in very handy during a time of rapid expansion. Dollar General seems to always be in a period of expansion, and the tech allows the store to open and be operation on time each and every time.

The VSAT technology allows these Dollar General stores to have broadband Internet capabilities quicker than terrestrial-based Internet companies are usually able to provide.

"It's an honor to be working with one of the world's finest, and fastest growing retailers," said Spacenet president and CEO, Glenn Katz (News - Alert). "We're proud to help play a key supporting role in Dollar General's national expansion, not only with rapidly deployable VSAT connectivity, but also with our overall approach to Managed Network Services. Our goal is to provide our customers with the technology, talent and teamwork to help them expand their business, reduce costs, improve security and meet their network objectives.”

Katz believed there was no other testament to the trustworthiness of his company’s technology than by looking at the sheer number of stores currently using the technology.
