MTN Satellite Communications Celebrates 15-Year Anniversary in Cruise Industry

Recently, MTN (News - Alert) Satellite Communications announced it was celebrating the 15-year anniversary of its Internet solution aboard cruise ships. To date, the company has enabled more than 150 million passengers and crew members to log in to the Internet and stay connected in some of the most remote locations.

MTN has developed various platforms and services to make maritime services available to both passengers and crew, and creates additional onboard revenue opportunities for the cruise lines.

Today, MTN’s value-added products can be found on more than 200 vessels around the globe. The organization provides various choices to call and stay connected at sea with such products as OceanPhone calling, Shore-to-Ship phone service, long-distance billing and credit card calling.

MTN continues to provide innovative communication solutions to cruise industry to cater to the growing requirements and expectations of passengers.

The products introduced by the company vary from the Internet Cafe to its recently launched Connect at Sea mobile application.

“Over the past 15 years, the communications landscape has changed dramatically, forcing cruise lines and communication providers to revisit how Internet enabled devices are being used by passengers and crew," said Brent Horwitz, SVP and general manager of Cruise & Ferry Services at MTN Satellite Communications. "As a pioneer in the industry, we are evolving the Internet Cafe, not just in functionality, but in how to charge onboard. We consistently look for reliable ways to keep crew and passengers connected via their mobile devices.”

The company recently announced that MTN Worldwide TV is now available to commercial shipping, ferry, oil and gas, and yacht customers. It will be useful for customers that want access to licensed content including news, entertainment and sports for their crew, guests and owners.

For the maritime industry, MTN Worldwide TV is the first fully-digital, multichannel television service.
