The ever increasing need for mobile bandwidth, rising from the massive consumption of audio, video and multimedia content through mobile phones across the globe, has been compelling the telecommunications operators to upgrade their infrastructures and equip themselves with latest and advanced technologies.

Hughes Network Systems (News - Alert), LLC (Hughes), a provider of satellite broadband services for domestic and commercial use, has announced that a well-known telecommunications operator from Latin America has chosen it to supply an HX System backhaul solution that will allow the company to strengthen its GSM and WiMAX (News - Alert) wireless voice and data services being offered in smaller and remote areas.

The company offers a high-speed satellite Internet service known as HughesNet, and has sold over 2.8 million systems within a large market spanning 100 nations across the globe to date. Solutions offered by Hughes such as IPoS/DVB-S2, RSM-A and GMR-1 have been approved by a number of standardization bodies, some of which are the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI (News - Alert)) and International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

In 2009, this telecommunications operator had acquired the HX System in order to switch its existing DVB-S network to the enhanced DVB-S2 platform by Hughes. The HX System leverages a dynamic bandwidth allocation protocol combined with low traffic latency and jitter to provide the enterprises with better voice quality and high data throughputs as well.

“Hughes is proud to receive this notable expansion order, a testament to having delivered as promised on the original contract and provided superior ongoing support,” commented Nick Marzella, vice president of CALA region at Hughes. “Our advanced HX System provides operators a highly versatile and cost-effective platform enabling backhaul of both wireless voice and 2.5G/3G data services in rural areas where terrestrial fibre or microwave backhaul solutions are prohibitively expensive.”

A well-known and effective satellite networking infrastructure, the HX System offers extensive support to more than one million broadband terminal sites across five continents, and complies with the IP over Satellite (IPoS) global standard in a comprehensive manner.

The company very recently launched the new HX System 4.0 platform, which offers high-speed IP services over satellite and is compatible with a wide variety of multi-media, video, data and voice applications.

Earlier this month, Hughes Network Systems, LLC completed the installation of gateways for the ‘YahClick’ broadband service of Abu Dhabi, UAE-based satellite operator Al Yah Satellite Communications Company PrJSC (Yahsat).
