GlobeCast Australia Invests in MPEG-4

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

GlobeCast Australia has invested in MPEG-4 to provide its customers with this high-quality service on the Optus (News - Alert) D2 DTH satellite platform.

This major upgrade will enable GlobeCast customers to enjoy increased household penetration potential because of its higher-quality video delivery to large-screen flat-panel displays.

Customers will also benefit from higher-quality sound and have an option for Dolby audio and get greater bandwidth efficiency and value from the MPEG-4 services.

Part of the worldwide GlobeCast group, GlobeCast Australia provides broadcast services for Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

"We have invested in MPEG-4 to give our customers access to the latest world-class technologies to help them innovate and grow," said GlobeCast Australia's chief executive Simon Farnsworth.

GlobeCast provides media management and global content delivery services for broadcasters and content creators.

The new MPEG-4 services will be offered in collaboration with GlobeCast’s channel partner RTS SAT, which offers Serbian viewers in Australia the latest daily entertainment from Serbia, including a 30-minute news bulletin from DNEVNIK.

The service is offered on behalf of EURO World Network (EWN)-a company operating DTH and IPTV (News - Alert) distribution platforms in Australia.

“It is a pleasure to be working with GlobeCast Australia in this region for our blue chip customer, RTS SAT,” said Mark Lobwein, chairman of EURO World Network. “GlobeCast has been looking after DTH services in Australia for over a decade and we are excited to be working with them to deliver this new technology for our satellite customers.”

GlobeCast was in news this summer for picking its patented Irdeto (News - Alert) Broadband and Irdeto Customer Central solutions for its newest venture in North America, MyGlobeTV.
