SpeedCast Acquires ASC
By David Gitonga, TMCnet Contributing Writer
Popular for its ReadyCONNECT solution, a portable emergency response satellite communication system, Australian Satellite Communications (ASC (News - Alert)) will soon have a new owner. SpeedCast has acquired ASC to help provide better managed networks services throughout the Pacific region that includes Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
ASC provides satellite-based communications solutions to mining, oil and gas industries and also serves government, construction and maritime sectors through Australia and the surrounding regions. ASC’s popularity and emergency response system has been hailed for its superior ability to continue functioning when all other systems are down.
Some of its projects have included the APA Group – Scada Network, Conoco Phillips Off-Shore Network, The Great Escape Maritime Network and the Western Australian Museum. The company has demonstrated its superior expertise in the designing, implementing and supporting of unique, customized satellite communication solutions for highly demanding customers.
Its ReadyCONNECT solution came in handy in the wake of Cyclone Yasi. The portable satellite solution was up and running within minutes and was used to provide reliable voice and data communications in devastated areas of tropical North Queensland and assisted the efforts of emergency relief agencies in the region. Lack of communication puts lives at risk in such situations and creates massive logistical problems. ASC’s ReadyCONNECT came to the rescue, ensuring damage assessments and task management was effectively communicated.
In one of its product videos, ASC demonstrates how to quickly establish a local communications hub for telephony and Internet access using its VSAT quick deploy antennas. The video is available by clicking this link.
According to one of ASC’s founders, Edward F. Snipel, ASC will serve as an ideal, highly complementary partner for SpeedCast, providing high quality, mission-critical services in remote and challenging locations.
