Norwegian Police to Use Sepura's Radios in Selected Police Districts
By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor
Sepura takes pride in the fact that it has been responsible for solving communications challenges for organizations all over the world. Its TETRA digital radio products, which are very popular in Sweden and Denmark, have now caught the attention of the Norwegian police.
Sepura’s radios have been selected by the Norwegian police as part of a nationwide project to renew the radio communications system. VHF communications AS, Sepura’s long-standing and highly-respected partner in Norway, has been awarded the police tender for the Nødnett ("emergency network") contract, according to officials.
In August 2012, the Norwegian Directorate for Public Safety Radio Emergency Communication signed agreements with three suppliers of radio terminals for use on its network, which entitled the suppliers to tender for the successive phases of the nationwide roll-out.
VHF will be the sole supplier of radio terminals for the first two phases, which will include the installation of Sepura's recently-launched STP9000 hand-portable radios, as well as the SRG3900 mobile radio in cars, boats and motorbikes. These radios are expected to be used by selected police districts.
"The STP9000, with its choice of user interfaces, IP67 environmental protection rating and outstanding audio clarity, is already proving popular around the world and I am particularly pleased that the Norwegian police have recognized its benefits and have selected it for this project," said Lars-Magnus Gustafsson, Sepura's Business Development Manager for Scandinavia, commenting on the deal.
Sepura’s partners in both Sweden and Denmark are part of the same group of companies, VHF Gruppen and VHF Communications.
VHF is not only highly experienced in both public safety communications issues, but is also highly knowledgeable on Sepura radios, which are well known for quality, reliability, usability and their robustness.
Sepura PLC, a UK-based designer, manufacturer and supplier of Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) terminals, has acquired 3T Communications AG, an Austria-based supplier of small to mid-size TETRA networks.
