Wireless Matrix Extends LightSquared Satellite Agreement to February 2016
By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer
Wireless Matrix, a provider of satellite communication services for critical business applications and GPS fleet management solutions, this week enacted an extension of its existing service agreement with provider of wholesale mobile satellite data, voice and bandwidth leasing services LightSquared (News - Alert). This extension will see LightSquared provide Wireless Matrix with satellite communications service until the middle of February 2016.
This service will be provided via LightSquared's next generation SkyTerra (News - Alert)-1 satellite, which is among the most powerful commercial satellites in use, offering reliable, ubiquitous coverage in North America.
With this, Wireless Matrix will be able to continue providing service for its customers that rely on satellite service. Such customers include railroad operators using satellite connectivity for mission-critical train communications and energy companies that need to connect to mobile workers or require always-on monitoring of the status of fixed-asset operations.
“This service extension provides operational security for our existing satellite customers,” said Rick Myers, CEO and executive chairman of Wireless Matrix, in a statement. “It also provides a foundation for development of next generation satellite service offerings for the businesses we serve.”
Wireless Matrix's software and wireless data solutions provide intelligence for managing, measuring and monitoring service execution, offering users greater on-time arrivals, increased productivity and lower total operating costs. The company's solution suite includes FleetOutlook, a Web-based platform that provides fleet operators complete visibility of operations.
Recently, the Wireless Matrix FleetOutlook GPS solution was named a winner in the 11th annual Mobile Star Awards program, hosted by mobile technology news and events site MobileVillage.com, for the third consecutive year. FleetOutlook was recognized as a Shining Star in the Enterprise Software: Mapping or Location Based Services category.
In December, CalAmp Corporation signed a definitive agreement to acquire the operations of Wireless Matrix for a cash payment of $53 million. Part of the assets CalAmp (News - Alert) acquired from Wireless Matrix included around $5.0 million.
