Gilat Introduces SkyEdge II-c Platform for Ka and Ku-band Internet Access

By Mandira Srivastava, TMCnet Contributor

In order to boost its performance of Ka-band and Ku-band Internet services, Gilat Satellite Networks (News - Alert) Ltd. (GILT), a company in satellite networking services, has launched SkyEdge II-c, the new simple IP-based connection.

In light of recent growth in Internet-based applications, the demand for satellite capacity has increased considerably. Hence, SkyEdge II-c has been developed to support Ka-band and Ku-band Internet services for both consumer and enterprise applications, including fast Web browsing, video streaming, IPTV (News - Alert), VoIP and other bandwidth-intensive services.

The company has been offering satellite ground equipment for the last 25 years, and recently saw the successful launch of Ka products and solutions, only to introduce the SkyEdge II-c platform. The firm also serves companies operating in defense, public security and news organizations to implement advanced, on-the-move tactical communications for their in-house operations.

Hagay Katz, Gilat's AVP and head of VSAT Line of Business, said in a statement, "Our new SkyEdge II-c platform dramatically simplifies your network operations and can now provide your ISPs and VNOs the business flexibility to deliver customized and competitive Internet plans and services. Compact, fully integrated and easy to install, SkyEdge II-c is the ‘New Simple’ in Internet Connectivity."

The growing demand for satellite bandwidth is driving investments in Ka-band as the next choice for launching new satellite capacity.

The SkyEdge II-c system has features like TotalNMS, Fair Use System (FUS), ISP Management Interface, Multi-tiered Acceleration and Compression, Rich IPv6 Stack, Do-It-Yourself Ka VSAT Installation, Self-installable Compact Hub, and Enhanced System Security.

SkyEdge II-c's scalable architecture offers higher quality, better performance and faster speeds in services to mobile operators. SkyEdge II-c starts small and expands later as demand grows, while delivering the business flexibility they need to provide customized and competitive Internet broadband services.
