Harris Communications Completes Installation of Distributed Antenna System at SPX Headquarters

Harris Communications, a provider of reliable in-building, wireless solutions for businesses, hospitals, universities and institutions, recently installed an in-building distributed antenna system within the global headquarters of SPX Corp. located in Ballantyne Corporate Place, Charlotte, NC.
First responders during an emergency are often not able to communicate effectively using their radios in large buildings like Ballantyne Corporate Place. Now, with the help of this installation, they will be allowed to have clear and constant radio communications throughout the building and will be able to stay in touch with their teammates and be in better control of the situation.
Harris’s system takes the signal and splits its power to offer coverage over the same area as a single tower would, but with reduced total power and improved reliability. It proves to be a far better option than fire phones that are hardwired at certain points in the building.
In a statement, Jim McEwen, VP of National Sales for Harris Communications, said, “We installed the DAS system at SPX Corp. headquarters with antennas above the ceiling grid. This keeps the aesthetic appeal of their offices intact while helping to maintain greater public safety in an emergency.”
SPX is a premier multi-industry manufacturing firm with operations in more than 35 countries and around 15,000 employees worldwide. The company's products include food processing systems for the food and beverage industry, power transformers for utility companies, and cooling systems for power plants.
Back in January of this year, SPX Corporation revealed that its board of directors has elected David V. Singer as an additional member.
