Upcoming PhotoGIS Software from Geo Tactical Solutions to Be Ready for Release by Q1 Of 2012

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Geo Tactical Solutions (GTS), a provider of end-to-end photo intelligence solutions to military, federal, and commercial clients, announced that its upcoming PhotoGIS software, photo mapping and management software, is expected to be ready for a planned release within Q1 of 2012. The company, which is in the last stages of developing its new innovative software solution, will make it possible for users to map out as well as organize, export and manage images that are taken by digital cameras with GPS capability.

The new solution will also make it easy for users to benefit from additional capabilities which have been included to improve and streamline photo-capture workflow within different kinds of federal and commercial organizations and for military agencies.

PhotoGIS has been designed with a QR code generator capability for enabling pre-field data collection. As soon as project or mission related information saved as “memos” is entered by a user a QR code is generated by the software to be scanned by the camera. The “memo” information, which is saved in the memory of the camera, is then attached to recorded photographs which can then be employed by the program to effectively organize, display include within standardized reports categorized under respective operation ID, name of photographer etc.

Photos form GPS-enabled cameras are plotted automatically by PhotoGIS on map viewer depending on their GPS coordinates. Images without spatial information can be manually dragged to a location on a map based on reference from satellite imagery. On the other hand, images with spatial information can be plotted along with information about the photographer automatically by PhotoGIS.

The photographer’s location and the object’s location are connected by an arrow which displays the distance and direction of the photographer with the object. Object location can mapped via GTS’ G700SE-M or G700SE-f GPS-enabled digital cameras which feature a laser range finder. Extended geographic analysis can be accomplished by the exporting of image files to different formats ideally used for mapping applications.

PhotoGIS offers users image markup and automated reporting capabilities as well. In addition to simple drag and drop of attributed information into relevant information, users can add notes and vector graphics into the images as well. Post importing and editing of the images, the program then fills out relevant report templates with images, "memos," as well as notes among other data pertaining to the image. Reports can be sent to Word, PDF, as well as Power Point document formats. Because the images and reports are cached within a relational database, centralized sharing and collaboration is possible.
