Telenav Unveils Scout

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Offering a daily personal navigator that will be seamlessly accessible across the web, smartphones, and in-car systems, Telenav has unveiled Scout.

Scout sets itself apart from other navigation and discovery services by providing personalized information on where to go, when to leave, how to get there, and things to do upon arrival and is first available on the iPhone (News - Alert) as a free app.

Apart from offering an instant access to local search for easy discovery of new places and saved favorites, Scout opens to My Dashboard, a customizable start screen that allows users to quickly get personalized, real-time commute times to work or home, the company stated in a press release.

“Scout addresses people's frustration with navigation devices,” said Sal Dhanani, Vice President of Products at Telenav. “Today, people want to be able to search, check drive times, and plan routes quickly on their computer, phone, or in the car. But with current tools, they must deal with multiple apps and interfaces and constantly re-enter information on the go, which compromises the experience. Scout is designed to solve these pain points.”

Looking to solve the need for an everyday navigation tool, My Dashboard was created and the tool works even when driving to familiar destinations. Two-thirds of respondents said they alter their normal routes to avoid traffic, while 57 percent cited road closures and 57 percent cited the need to run off-route errands, according to a recent survey from Telenav. In addition, even when driving around their home towns, U.S. drivers show a surprising lack of local know-how.

Recently, the company announced the new version of its automotive navigation platform TeleNav (News - Alert) Auto 2.0, which blends mobile and automotive technologies to offer users a new kind of connected experience in the vehicle.

The company claimed that with its solutions, any vehicle can support connected service with monthly recurring revenue opportunities. And these solutions can be activated or upgraded at any time during or after the initial vehicle purchase. TeleNav delivers a flexible HMI (human-machine interface).
