International Coalition Partner Will Receive Airborne and Maritime Solutions from Hughes

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Hughes (News - Alert) Network Systems has been awarded a contract to support in-flight and at-sea tactical communication solutions for an international coalition partner. This international coalition partner supports Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) initiatives. As per the agreement, Hughes will provide full Internet Protocol (IP) functionality with enhanced security standards to meet the unique requirements of ISR applications. Hughes will utilize its advanced platform HX System to provide this service.

Hughes Network Systems (News - Alert) specializes in delivering network technologies, managed services and solutions for enterprises and governments worldwide.

Hughes’s HX system is built on a foundation of IP features and functionality and offers solutions for satellite routing where full IP functionality is required together with performance. The core component of the HX system is the HX Gateway (News - Alert) which acts as the system master and includes the network management and dynamic bandwidth assignment manager. Hughes will use one or more of these sophisticated gateways to offer the communication solution for the ISR applications. These gateways will be under a single, comprehensive management system called EXPERTNMS which has a highly intuitive and responsive user interface with advanced diagnostics.

In a release, Rick Lobe, Vice President and General Manager of Hughes Defense and Intelligence Systems Division, said, "We are pleased to continue to support allies of the United States and enhance international missions. Our powerful and field proven HX System is ideal for ISR applications, delivering bandwidth efficient solutions to help reduce costs while also providing the most advanced communications-on-the-move technologies available to military and government customers."
