Proxim Wireless Provides WiMax Hardware to CTV Infotech

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Proxim Wireless (News - Alert) reportedly has announced that it has provided WiMax equipment to CTV Infotech for its wireless broadband triple play solution.

Proxim Wireless provides broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play of data, voice, video and mobility to all organizations. CTV Infotech is a subsidiary of Chinese Television Company.

CTV Infotech says it had been using its satellite news-gathering transmission as the basic mode of operation prior to the deployment of the WiMax equipment. CTV Infotech then realized that WiMax will be able to offer larger bandwidth and higher capacity with longer range.

CTV Infotech is now using a wireless network consisting of Proxim’s products from end-to-end to deliver IPTV (News - Alert), real-time news reporting capabilities and VoIP. Its network consists of a combination of Proxim’s Tsunami MP.11 and Tsunami MP.16 point-to-point products, Tsunami.GX point-to-point products and ORiNOCO AP-4000 access point equipment.

CTV Infotech says that by using streaming IPTV over Proxim’s WiMax network, it will be able to transmit real-time video to various news centers and increase the number of real-time news gathering locations.

According to Nan-Hung Lin, general manager at CTV Infotech, “Our TV program production and broadcasting capabilities need to evolve as our network expands, so we strive to embrace new technologies that can help advance our services. We work with companies such as Proxim Wireless and Smartway Digital to ensure that we continue to deliver state-of-the-art multimedia solutions to our audience and provide superior real-time information broadcasting.”

The end-to-end product portfolio of Proxim Wireless enables partners to custom-build the wireless solution that fits customers’ specific needs. Its broadband equipment is used by enterprises, service providers, carriers, government entities, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, municipalities and other organizations that require high performance, secure and scalable broadband wireless solutions. Proxim has deployed more than 1.8 million units in the field worldwide.

Lionel Chmilewsky, executive vice president of worldwide sales at Proxim Wireless, said, “Proxim has a long history as an innovator and in the wireless broadband market and was an early proponent of WiMax technology. This deployment illustrates the benefits of Proxim’s end-to-end solution by providing a more cost-effective and higher capacity solution than the previous satellite based system, enabling the delivery of wireless IPTV to more people.”
