Siano's Mobile TV Receiver and Antenna Chips Power AvMap's Geosat 6 Phone TV

By Arvind Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Siano (News - Alert) Mobile Silicon, a company that manufacturers mobile TV chips, announced that AvMap, a company providing solutions for GPS navigation, has chosen Siano to provide mobile TV functionality for Geosat 6, its new generation portable satellite navigators. Peugeot 207 Energie Sport car model is the first customer for the mobile TV enabled Geosat 6 device.

Geosat 6 is a composite of Italian design and state of the art technology, that makes it sophisticated and accurate in every single detail. It deploys Siano’s mobile TV receiver and antenna chips to offer high quality in-car mobile TV entertainment coupled with unparalleled mobile TV reception extending to rural areas and high mobility performance that will support Mobile Digital TV (MDTV) while travelling at high speeds, eliminating the need for external antennae.

Geosat 6 Phone TV, which has been developed for Peugeot Automobili Italia, combines an unequalled set of features in a single device apart from Mobile TV, such as advanced GPS navigation, a tri-band GSM phone, alcohol test and multimedia player functions. The device will also feature digital maps and content from Tele Atlas (News - Alert).

Simone Lazzarini, CEO of AvMap said that customers such as Peugeot demand high quality mobile TV reception, which will receive the latest in television entertainment even when travelling at high speeds.

Lazzarini added that in seeking a mobile TV chip partner for the ‘Geosat’, AvMap chose Siano, the highest performing mobile TV solution on the market, and the company is very happy with the results.

Alon Ironi, CEO of Siano, commented that as the mobile TV market hits its much anticipated hyper curve, in-car entertainment , which means all-in-one 'combo' mobile devices are going to represent a sizable chunk of this market, and working with leading navigation company AvMap in supplying world-class brands such as Peugeot with MDTV is testament to the quality and high-performance of Siano's chips.

Ironi expressed hope that both mobile TV and GPS will become integral components of every car within just a few years, and Siano has developed MDTV chips with unprecedented mobility performance to support this trend.
