SeaMobile Donates Fox News to Mercy Ships
By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor
SeaMobile Enterprises, provider of communications services to remote locations, has given free access to Fox News channel via satellite to Mercy Ships on board the global charity's flagship, the Africa Mercy.
SeaMobile's initiative will allow Mercy Ships volunteer crew to have access to FoxNews' coverage of global events. The coverage will allow its volunteer crew to stay in touch with the world while serving the needs of a portion of its population. The Africa Mercy, world's largest non-governmental hospital ship, is currently on a 10-month field service in Monrovia, Liberia.
Since its volunteers are from over 35 different nations, the new program provides a good opportunity to keep them up to date with current events while they serve their customers on board.
The donation will also help Mercy Ships to attract the talent of world-class medical care. More than 850 crews worldwide, representing more than 30 nations, are joined each year by thousands of short-term volunteers.
SeaMobile’s VSAT satellite communications network offers services to nearly 400 vessels worldwide, including cruise ships, government and military, private yachts, ferries, offshore energy industry, and commercial shipping customers depend the voice and data networks.
“We are very pleased to support the Mercy Ships and the extraordinary people who volunteer their time to help others,” said Dave Kagan, CEO of SeaMobile, in a statement. “Mercy Ships is a long-time customer for our VSAT satellite service and providing FoxNews to the volunteer crew is a great way to show our appreciation for their loyalty and the work they do in the world.”
In the past 30 years, Mercy Ships has worked in more than 70 countries and attracted many talents. Its services are valued at more than $670 million, directly impacting more than 1.9 million people.
“We are thrilled that SeaMobile has decided to provide FoxNews to our crew. Their continued commitment to provide outstanding satellite communications is a key component to the success we are able to achieve in serving the people of West Africa,” said Don Stephens, founder and president of Mercy Ships, in a statement. “This news service donation is a wonderful addition for our Crew of the Africa Mercy who will be onboard for over 10 months each year.”
