Cerona's XpressVu Chosen by DG FastChannel for DVB-S2 Broadcast

By Arvind Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Cerona Networks Corporation, a manufacturer of satellite equipment, has announced that its XpressVu DVB-S2 Satellite Receiver has been chosen by DG FastChannel, a provider of technology-based solutions for advertisers and agencies.

The XpressVu will help DG FastChannel in its high-speed IP transmissions through its SpotBox network. The SpotBox network is a platform of digital media services for the advertising, broadcast and publishing industries.

The XpressVu Dual Tuner PCIe card is the latest solution from Cerona Networks, and is able to receive and decode DVB Linear video or DVB IP broadcasts and delivers those streams via a high-speed Ethernet connection.

PCI-Express is a new implementation of the PCI computer bus that uses existing PCI programming concepts and communications standards, but is based on a much faster serial communications system. It offers superior performance with twice the capability and reliability.

The XpressVu PCIe Card enables operators to deliver high value content using their existing bandwidth and infrastructure. The card “turbo charges” an existing VSAT network and eliminates Internet bottlenecks. The XpressVu is suited for various applications such as streaming audio and video, retail kiosks, distance learning, Web caching, digital signage, IPTV (News - Alert), high-speed Internet delivery, content distribution, corporate LAN/WAN interconnection, and IP multicasting.

Through Cerona's XpressVu, DG FastChannel will be able to receive simultaneous transmissions from two separate transponders each running up to 80 megabits per second. Cerona's best of breed technology led to DG FastChannel's upgrading its service offering, which met all of company's objectives.

Mitch Robinson, president and chief executive officer of Cerona said that it's exciting to see that Cerona's XpressVu products prevail in such a competitive market as the leader in DVB-S2 receiver technology, and the company looks forward to working with DG FastChannel in meeting their future satellite-based objectives.
