By Jessica Kostek, TMCnet Channel Editor
Hughes Network Systems (News - Alert), a provider of broadband satellite networks and services, announced that its Brazilian operating entity, Hughes do Brasil, will implement services with a new Ku-band capacity on Intelsat's (News - Alert) Galaxy-28 satellite to meet growing demands for its HughesNet broadband services across Latin America.
According to Delio Morais, president of Hughes do Brasil, "The Galaxy-28 satellite offers us strategic infrastructure, as it ensures that we will have the capacity necessary to keep pace with the growing demand for broadband services in Brazil and across this region."
Hughes planes to broaden their efforts in South American markets by offering customers HughesNet’s solutions and services which include the backup of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks, manage corporate networks, distant learning networks, high-speed internet access and Internet protocol television (IPTV (News - Alert)) solutions.
MPLS improves packet exchange while IPTV sends a two-way digital broadcast via switched telephone or cable network by broadband connections, in addition to a set top box program with software that handles viewer requests to access media sources.
Carmen Gonzalez-Sanfeliu, Intelsat's regional vice president, Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighted that, "The rate of adoption of more robust data services is accelerating rapidly throughout Latin America and Intelsat has been providing satellite capacity for Hughes since its entry into the provision of broadband satellite services in the region."
Intelsat is a provider of fixed satellite services (FSS) worldwide, delivering information and entertainment for many media and network companies, multinational corporations, Internet service providers and governmental agencies. Hughes Network Systems provides broadband satellite networks and services for large enterprises, governments, small businesses, and consumers.
