DeLorme Replaces Cisco's Services with Extreme Networks' Ethernet Solutions

Extreme Networks, a company specializing in Ethernet networks that support data, voice, and video for enterprises and service providers, is now offering Ethernet network solutions to Global Positioning System (GPS) solution provider, DeLorme to transition to high performance network, said an announcement from the company.

Based in Yarmouth, Maine, DeLorme is a global provider of a variety of mapping software, GPS, and data solutions for consumer and professional markets.

Compared to the network infrastructure from Cisco (News - Alert), the new network from Extreme Networks reportedly provides higher bandwidth delivered per port, intuitive and simple-to-operate management, and superior price/performance.

With the help of Extreme Networks’ (News - Alert) BalckDiamond 8800 modular switch and Summit, DeLorme now gets a converged network solution and meets the challenge for more predictable connectivity.

Extreme Networks’ switching portfolio works with a single operating system, ExtremeXOS, so that software updates to switches are both simple to understand and seamless to carry out, the company said.

DeLorme employees often have to deal with graphic-rich files related to geographic information system (GIS) and satellite imagery. This demands an industrial-strength network for the company. According to DeLorme, the previous network was not able to carry such loads and was also difficult to manage and diagnose when outages occurred.

“We used to be a Cisco shop but with Extreme Networks, the performance upgrade, impressive toolsets along with its focus on network fundamentals have really come to light,” said Craig Wood, senior system engineer for DeLorme, in a statement.

Wood further said that by implementing Extreme Networks’ services, DeLorme reduced their network maintenance time by 50 percent. Extreme Networks' solution has been solid, capable to work today and able to grow according to the needs of DeLorme in the future.

“Now more than ever businesses are realizing that their network infrastructure should be both simple and predictable,” said Paul Hooper, chief marketing officer for Extreme Networks, in a statement. “Our strategic Ethernet solutions provide the opportunity to reduce operational expenses and drive towards the bottom line, all while delivering a great network experience.”
