New iPhone App Facilitates Guided GPS Tours of New York City
By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor
iPhone (News - Alert) users visiting New York City can now use the mobile device to take a GPS guided tour of the city -- thanks to a new application that turns the device into a handheld GPS-based tour guide.
CityShow NYC is a high-tech audio/visual guide to New York City to provide historic facts, anecdotes, photos, music, and descriptions for various points-of-interest in Manhattan.
The application is like having your own personal New Yorker as your guide. It uses GPS signals to locate the user and send alerts on nearby points-of-interest, providing full-stereo audio information about the locations.
CityShow NYC also provides information about other places like restaurants, shops, and the nearest subway stations. A “how to” section gives travel directions from midtown hotels to major tourist destinations.
While exploring New York City, CityShow knows where the user is and accordingly provides information. It can also be used prior to the trip to help plan the days in NYC. It provides with interesting NYC stories, history, music, photos, and information. CityShow also offers a Subway Finder feature.
In a release, Brian Teasley, head of GPS Multi-Media, said "Every New Yorker who has an iPhone should have this application for its entertainment value alone." "It is a treasure trove of entertainment and information for tourists. It's a must-have if you are coming to New York City."
The new application is based on patented technology that debuted at the Top of the Rock Observation Deck at Rockefeller Center in 2006. It was the basis for audio tours rented to visitors of the famed observation deck.
GPS Multi-Media is an entertainment and technology company that specializes in location-based media and services. It offers "CityShow" product and derivations of it for the tourism, travel, and corporate industries.
