According to the report, “PND Owners Unlikely to Discontinue Using Their Device,” from Strategy Analytics’ (News - Alert) Automotive Consumer Insights service, more than 75 percent of the navigation consumers in the U.S. and 62 percent of those in the U.K. ask for the navigation system feature. In addition, as many as 87 percent of French consumers  prefer the speed camera warning feature, the report found. Real-time traffic information is the top preference of German consumers.

The report also revealed that the owners of installed navigation systems or phone-based navigation solutions were more likely than owners of PNDs to actually use their device. The study was conducted on automotive consumers in the US and Western Europe.

Earlier this month, TMCnet reported that the latest research from In-Stat (News - Alert) has given a sign of maturity in the personal navigation device (PND) market as price points decline sharply, consolidation occurs, and shipment growth slows down.

“Consumers in Western Europe were generally interested in a wider range of navigation features compared to consumers in the US,” said Chris Schreiner, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics, in a statement.

"While PND owners were less likely to own but never use their device, owners of installed navigation systems were slightly more likely to use their devices on a daily and weekly basis,” Kevin Nolan, vice president of strategy analytics user experience practice, said in a statement.
