Clear Channel Satellite Announces Addition of Oklahoma News Network to X-Digital Systems

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Clear Channel Satellite, a provider of satellite communications for radio networks, television stations, and government agencies, reportedly has added Oklahoma News Network, or “ONN,” to the X-Digital Systems, Inc., a San Diego, California-based manufacturer of satellite and terrestrial multimedia communication systems.

The Oklahoma News Network (ONN) provides news, sports, and agricultural programming to its affiliates via the state's only all digital satellite distribution system.

Having more than 85 full-time affiliates with coverage in every county of Oklahoma, ONN also distributes programming for - the University of Oklahoma and Western Oklahoma University through IMG Communications, University of Louisville through Nelligan Sports Marketing, The Lexington Legends, Horse Racing Radio Network, High School Sweet 16 Radio Network, and the Oklahoma Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The Oklahoma News Network made a transition from International Datacasting (News - Alert) – SR260/QFR satellite receivers, which it was using earlier, to X-Digital XDS-PRO4 satellite receiver.

X-Digital’s both XDS-PRO4 and XDS-PRO1 satellite receivers enables live broadcasts, store and forward, copy split–spot insertion, addressability and time shift delay. Additionally, both these satellite receivers also gives radio networks the ability to provide local, regional or nationwide spot insertions - for their advertisers.

Currently, the ONN also provides content for Oklahoma Agrinet, Voice of Southwest Agriculture, Ag Producers Radio Network and Sports Distribution Network.

In a press release, Jim Poling, regional engineering manager for Clear Channel (News - Alert) Communications, said, “We had been searching for a reasonably priced replacement for our aging satellite system that would allow us to utilize store and forward technology, X-Digital was the obvious solution.”

“One of the nice features of the X-Digital system, it gives the network full control of the content that goes out and to which affiliate they want it to go to,” said Monty Dent, sales manager for Clear Channel Satellite. “The affiliates also have the ability to set up their own schedule programs within the receiver and play them back when it works best for their market.”

Derrick Nance, director of sales for ONN, said in the release, “Affiliates will see the benefits like: Store and Forward and File Delivery, Live Audio Record/Playback (Time Shifting), Complete Automation, Automated Affidavit System, plus numerous other features...”

“Our News, Agriculture, and Sports Networks have been delivering great On-Air products to over 150 affiliates for over four decades,” added Derrick. “Our investment in X-Digital Systems is another way we are committed in providing the best products and service to your station for several decades to come!”

X-Digital System (XDS) mainly specializes in advanced systems for wireless and wired applications. Its equipments feature patent-pending technology designed to deliver the reliability, flexibility, automation as well as quality, thereby facilitating broadcasters to deliver next-generation digital over public and private networks.

Clear Channel Satellite is a division of CC Media Holdings, Inc., a media and entertainment Company. It provides satellite communications to large corporations, small to medium-size companies and schools as well, apart from TV stations.
